Social Media Marketing is Eating my Fucking Brain?
The Internet and Social Media has certainly made marketing more affordable for businesses. While the cost to market a business has gone down, the time commitment has increased. While I don’t doubt that social media has value when marketing a business especially when it come to spreading the word. I am trying to understand who in the hell really has the time to commit to a full social media marketing program. It seems that a business would need to hire a full time employee just to handle social media alone. When are you supposed to find time to run your business?
Maybe it’s because I am a single parent and running my own business. However, I just don’t have all day to sit around twittering and facebooking. While to some degree I enjoy these social networks, I just don’t have the time for them. I wonder to myself how do people like Chris Brogan and Guy Kawasaki have the time to send out 100 tweets a day, write blogs posts for their blogs, write guess blog posts and handle clients, and have time for a personal life? I have come to the conclusion and I could be wrong that these people have hired people to do these things for them under their name or they use automation. Myself, I have a hard enough time posting every day to my blog and some days I don’t post. I would love to post every day but my mind just can’t handle it, so I don’t.
Trying to keep up with all the social media bullshit only stressed me out more. I personally can’t handle it and it felt as if social media was eating my brain. Now with one son on the basketball team and the other one in band, I have even less time to devote to my business, nonetheless social media. Once again, I am looking at my business for the New Year and determining where I need to focus my energies to ensure that I run a successful business and not burn out.
I don’t want to have employees I enjoy being a solopreneur. I like being my own boss and I don’t want to boss others, I have my children for that. What I want to do is focus on marketing communications planning for other small businesses. I want to help them succeed and grow their business through marketing. I would love to help businesses build facebook fan pages. I think they can work for just about any business and authors. I enjoy planning. I don’t really enjoy tweeting.
