I am so Damn Tired of Hearing about Social Media, I Could Scream

September 23, 2009 by: Jenn

I tell you dammit I feel all twittered and facebooked out these days. I understand that people are increasing their businesses and feeling as if they have many friends because of these services. People constantly talk and write about them, like there are next best things since ice cream. Some days I would rather have the ice cream. I mean really, with the amount of people using these services, how many are actually gaining a benefit from them. Seems like most people are really just wasting time twitting and facebooking when they could really be doing more important things; like actually talking to and meeting real people.

People are spending an overwhelming amount of time sitting in front of their computers and by dammit that includes me, when we could all be out enjoying the world and the wonderful adventures that awaits us.

I would love for social media to help me grow my business, but I don’t want to lose my life living in front of a computer. Sometimes I miss meeting with clients, just for the true engagement that you get when meeting face-to-face, the laughter, the body language that you get when meeting with clients. I will admit, the internet has allowed me to do things that I was not able to do before we became so technologically advanced, but at what price? Are we losing the ability to socialize outside of our computers?

It all makes me wonder.

What do you think?
